Finding The Right Pool Cue | Billiard Cues | Cue Case

When it comes to examining the Tools Of The Trade, the pool stick or 'cue' is the most critical element for any player to consider. For the amateur or beginner, the pool cues available at your local hall are a great way to gauge the size and length of the pool stick with which you feel most comfortable. Cue sticks come in different weights, thickness, and length and it is important for each player to find a cue that suits his or her own personal preference.

When you are ready to purchase your own custom cue stick, it is recommended to implement the 'try before you buy' method. As some custom pool sticks may be rather costly, you want to make sure that the choice you make is one that will compliment your game and allow you to play your best at every single shot.

Your cue should be well balanced with the weight evenly distributed throughout. A cue stick comes in either one or two pieces. The two piece models have a a screw protruding from the butt end of the stick that screws into the other end of the shaft. Aside from the ease of portability, there is really no advantage of a two piece cue over a one piece cue.

With the benefit of owning your own pool stick comes the responsibility of caring for the cue as well. Use a standard cue rack where your stick can rest safely in a straight vertical position and Do Not lean your stick against a wall, or desk as the wood may alter or bow after time. Avoid radical changes in temperature as this may also cause the wood to bend, and never leave your pool cue in your car, trunk, or other humid areas.

Wax cleaner or wood polish is an excellent way to keep your cue clean, and should be applied every so often. You may also consider purchasing a pool cue case for your stick, as this is almost necessary when purchasing a two piece model cue.
